Schedule: Monday–Friday, typically 2:00 PM–6:00 PM

Are you someone who enjoys working with kids, brings positive energy into a room, and wants hands-on experience in education or child development?

The Art Farm NYC is looking for a dependable and enthusiastic Assistant Afterschool Teacher to join our team. You’ll help create a fun, supportive, and engaging afterschool experience for children ranging from age 3 through 5th grade.

This role is ideal for college students, aspiring educators, or anyone looking to build experience working with children in a creative and active environment.

A completed degree is not required. Current college students—especially those studying Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Psychology, Recreation, or a related field—are encouraged to apply.

What Your Afternoons Will Look Like

As an Assistant Afterschool Teacher, you’ll work alongside Lead Teachers and program leadership to help keep each afternoon running smoothly.

You may:

• Help lead art projects, science activities, sensory play, games, storytime, and other hands-on activities

• Supervise and engage with children from preschool through 5th grade

• Assist with classroom routines, transitions, snack time, cleanup, and dismissal

• Encourage creativity, teamwork, independence, and positive social interactions

• Support Lead Teachers with classroom management and age-appropriate behavior guidance

• Help students stay engaged, included, and supported throughout the afternoon

• Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment

• Assist with attendance, student rosters, and basic classroom documentation

• Communicate student needs, concerns, or incidents to the Lead Teacher or Director

• Follow program safety procedures and respond appropriately when concerns arise

• Interact professionally and positively with students, families, coworkers, and site staff

• Jump in where needed to help create a successful afterschool experience

• Caring, patient, dependable, and energetic

• Comfortable working with children of different ages and developmental stages

• Someone who enjoys being active and engaged rather than sitting on the sidelines

• Able to take direction while also being proactive and helpful

• A strong communicator and team player

• Reliable and able to consistently commit to at least 2 afternoons per week

• Interested in education, early childhood development, recreation, youth programming, or a related field

Previous experience working with children is helpful, but it is not required.
